Mompox Revive el Sonido de sus Relojes Históricos tras más de dos Décadas de Silencio

🎼 Mompox no solo aporta al turismo como destino religioso -donde alcanza el 100% de ocupación hotelera-, sino que además cuenta con su festival de jazz que generó $15.329 millones.

El emblemático paisaje sonoro de Santa Cruz de Mompox, marcado por el latido inconfundible de los relojes de las iglesias y de la alcaldía, está a punto de recuperar su compás histórico. Gracias al respaldo de la Cooperación suiza a través de Swisscontact y su proyecto Senior Expert Contact (SEC), el maestro relojero alemán Tobías Vogler, lleva un mes en Mompox, liderando la restauración integral de estas piezas únicas del patrimonio cultural colombiano.

Esta intervención que se convierte en un hito para la “Ciudad de Dios” y el “Corazón del Caribe”, articula esfuerzos entre la Alcaldía de Mompox, a través de sus secretarías de Turismo y Cultura y planeación e infraestructura, la Escuela Taller El Boga, el Depósito de Fabiola Badrán, las Parroquias Santa Cruz de Mompox y Santo Domingo de Guzmán, la Escuela Normal Superior y el aprendiz SENA Luis Echavez, potenciando un proceso colaborativo que prioriza el fortalecimiento de capacidades locales.

El proyecto ya alcanzó un logro clave, la restauración del reloj de la Alcaldía, completada en tres semanas con una inversión cercana a los cinco millones de pesos, además de los costos asumidos por Swisscontact para el traslado del experto y de los actores locales para la logística interna. Esta intervención no solo devolvió a la ciudad su reloj en funcionamiento, sino que permitió realizar el diagnóstico de los mecanismos de las iglesias Santa Bárbara y San Francisco, que requieren nuevas inversiones para su recuperación. Su restauración dependerá ahora de la articulación entre instituciones y actores locales, con el propósito de que vuelvan a resonar junto al reloj de la Alcaldía y reconstruyan por completo el paisaje sonoro de Mompox.

“Para Mompox, esta articulación significa mucho más que unir esfuerzos: es la oportunidad de fortalecer nuestro propio talento y proteger un patrimonio que nos da identidad. La restauración de los relojes no solo devuelve un sonido que nos acompaña desde generaciones, sino que demuestra que cuando instituciones, talleres locales y aliados internacionales trabajamos juntos, el territorio avanza hacia un futuro más sólido y orgulloso de su historia.” afirmó Luis Alfredo Domínguez, Secretario de Turismo y Cultura de Mompox.

Vogler, lidera esta restauración gracias al SEC, una iniciativa que conecta empresas con expertos internacionales o nacionales para brindar asesorías técnicas de corto plazo y acompañamiento práctico. Este modelo permite transferir conocimiento especializado directamente al territorio, y es así como trabajadores locales de Mompox reciben hoy la experiencia de Vogler para fortalecer sus capacidades locales y asegurar la sostenibilidad de los relojes de la torre.

“Para la cooperación suiza, el SEC es clave porque permite traer al territorio una experiencia técnica que no siempre es fácil de encontrar localmente. Pero su verdadero valor está en cómo esa experticia internacional se articula con el talento y las instituciones. Es en esa suma, lo global fortaleciéndose con lo local, donde ocurren transformaciones como esta restauración, que no solo recupera patrimonio, sino capacidades para el futuro”. manifestó Enrique Maruri, Director de Swisscontact Colombia.

A partir de esta restauración y del valor patrimonial de Mompox, la Fundación Bancolombia se articula a este proceso para acompañar el diseño de una nueva experiencia turística en el municipio, inspirada en el valor del tiempo, su historia y su identidad. Esta apuesta busca conectar el patrimonio con oportunidades reales de desarrollo, fortaleciendo capacidades locales y aportando a la construcción de una oferta turística que dinamice la economía del territorio. 

Junto con actores locales de los sectores turístico, cultural y creativo de Mompox, se creará una propuesta que en el futuro enriquecerá la oferta del municipio y generará nuevas oportunidades para el territorio.

Este trabajo no solo busca que los relojes vuelvan a sonar, sino que funcionen con precisión todo el día. Para lograrlo, el experto debe ajustar el mecanismo para que marque cada 15 minutos con exactitud y adaptarlo al calor de Mompox, donde los 29°C hacen que el metal se expanda y el reloj pueda atrasarse en las horas de sol fuerte. Por eso, cada pieza se calibra con cuidado y las pesas se alinean al milímetro, garantizando que el corazón sonoro de la ciudad vuelva a latir como debe.

Esta apuesta conjunta cobra aún más sentido en un territorio cuyo potencial turístico ya muestra resultados contundentes. Según cifras de la Gobernación de Bolívar y el Ministerio de Comercio, Industria y Turismo, Mompox es uno de los 10 destinos religiosos priorizados por el Gobierno Nacional, con niveles de ocupación hotelera que han alcanzado hasta el 100%. Además, iniciativas como el Festijazz 2025 generaron un impacto económico de $15.329 millones, de los cuales el 58%, cerca de $8.932 millones, correspondió a alojamiento y servicios de comida, reflejando la fuerza del turismo cultural en la ciudad.

Con la restauración en marcha y el respaldo técnico e institucional ya articulado, Mompox avanza en un proceso que combina preservación patrimonial y proyección turística. La recuperación de los relojes de la torre se convierte así en un ejemplo concreto de cómo la cooperación internacional, el trabajo local y la apuesta público-privada pueden generar capacidades nuevas, y abrir oportunidades para una ciudad que hoy consolida su atractivo cultural y fortalece su posición como destino estratégico en el país.
