Luego de una pausa obligada por un tema de salud, Valentina Rico vuelve en 2025 con su segundo disco de estudio: «Florida Sunset«. Más que un regreso, este álbum representa un momento de liberación, una forma de reencontrarse con la música desde un lugar más pacífico, más maduro y profundamente íntimo.
Aunque el cuerpo tuvo que detenerse, Valentina nunca dejó de escribir. “No volver jamás fue una opción”, dice con claridad. “Seguí pensando en canciones todo el tiempo, solo necesitaba darme permiso de parar un rato”. Esa pausa, que llegó de forma inesperada a los 28 años, la llevó a reconectar con su esencia creativa sin ansiedad ni autoexigencia.
«Florida Sunset« nace desde un recuerdo: una tarde cualquiera, flotando en la piscina de su casa en Fort Lauderdale mientras sonaba Elvis. Fue ahí, justo cuando escuchó «Hawaiian Sunset», que apareció el título. A partir de ese instante, las canciones comenzaron a construirse como postales emocionales de su vida en la playa.
En este nuevo álbum, Valentina explora los sonidos playeros que la han acompañado desde niña, como el rock surfero de los años 60, los Beach Boys y Elvis Presley, pero llevados a su propio universo pop, sin pretensiones, con libertad y honestidad. “Este disco lo hice con mis amigos, con referencias que amo y sin pensar demasiado. Quería contar mis historias desde un lugar más liviano”.
Fun fact: ¿Sabías que Valentina Rico ha escrito canciones para artistas como David Visbal, Lola Indigo y Paulina Rubio? Además de ser una intérprete brillante, su talento como compositora ha dejado huella en algunas de las voces más importantes del pop en español.
Aunque la nostalgia está muy presente, «Florida Sunset« no se regodea en el dolor. Todo lo contrario. Las canciones miran al pasado con ternura, incluso cuando hablan de lo que no fue. “Creo que por primera vez dejé de idealizar el sufrimiento. Este disco habla de lo que viví, sin necesidad de quedarme pegada al dolor”.
El focus track del álbum, «Montego Bay«, cuenta un amor de verano en Jamaica que aún resuena en la memoria. “El sabor a agua salada no se fue”, canta Valentina, como quien sabe que hay historias que nos marcan para siempre, aunque nunca las volvamos a contar.
