El cineasta y cantautor colombiano, Daniel Mejía regresa este 2023 con su tercer sencillo «Mejor Odiarnos«, esta vez presenta su canción con una mezcla de elementos del pop latino y el Bossa Nova, es una canción que habla del final de una relación que no funciona y cómo, a pesar del dolor, es mejor odiarse que seguir en negación.
Mejor Odiarnos nace del refrán que dice que “del odio al amor hay solo un paso” y es por esto que Daniel decide inspirarse en el bolero “Ódiame”, interpretado por el maestro Julio Jaramillo.
En esta canción, Daniel quiso explorar el romanticismo del Bossa Nova, combinándolo con el sonido del pop latino.
“Mi música está influenciada por todos los géneros que he escuchado desde pequeño, a mí me gusta desde el bolero que escuchaban los abuelos, hasta el rock de los 80 y el reggaetón. En mis canciones busco escribir sobre temas universales, tomando de mis propias experiencias, pero también poniéndome en los zapatos de alguien más y preguntándome qué hubiera hecho yo en esas circunstancias”. La producción de la canción estuvo a cargo del colombiano nominado a los premios Latin Grammy y Grammy Anglo, Sebastián Mejía, La mezcla por parte de Stefano Pizzaia y la masterización fue realizada por Sebastián Lopera.
El vídeo fue dirigido por Daniel Mejía y retrata esos primeros momentos del duelo de una ruptura amorosa. El personaje, interpretado también por Daniel, regresa a casa con flores solo para encontrarse con una carta de despedida. Fue grabado en Girardota, en las afueras de Medellín, y resalta los paisajes y la naturaleza del campo antioqueño.
Acerca de Daniel Mejía:
Daniel nació en la ciudad de Medellín en 1992. Allí creció mostrando habilidades artísticas desde muy temprana edad. Cuando era niño, estuvo en clases de pintura y piano. A modo de anécdota, Daniel nos cuenta que fue expulsado del coro del colegio por “no saber cantar”. Sin embargo, le gustaba sentarse frente al piano a sacar canciones de oído y a imaginarse melodías.
Daniel siguió explorando su vena artística. Comenzó a estudiar publicidad en Medellín, pero al segundo año se ganó una beca y se mudó a Savannah, Estados Unidos para estudiar cine y televisión en una universidad de arte llamada SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design). Estando allá, ganó un concurso de dibujo de la alcaldía y se especializó en dirección y actuación para la cámara. En el 2016 se graduó con los máximos honores (Summa Cum Laude).
Su corto «El Despertar del Artista«, obtuvo el premio a mejor corto estudiantil en el festival de cine de Beverly Hills (Beverly Hills Film Festival) e hizo parte de la selección oficial del Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena (FICCI) y de Bogoshorts.
Al regresar a Colombia, continuó con su carrera de dirección y comenzó a estudiar canto con diversos profesores, entre ellos la reconocida coach vocal Mirabay Montoya.
Ha dirigido videoclips musicales para artistas como: Mike Bahía, Carin León, Paula Arenas, F4ST, Providencia, entre otros.
Daniel se ha destacado también por ser uno de los directores de una serie animada llamada «Dapinty, Una Aventura Musicolor«, la cual estuvo nominada a los International Emmy Awards en el 2022.
En el año 2022 la Revista Forbes Colombia lo incluyó en su listado de los 50 Más Creativos de Colombia, al lado de artistas como: Maluma, Shakira [ te puede interesar Unión de Talento en una Sesión ], Sebastián Yatra, entre otros.
