Esta es la extraordinaria vida de un veterano de la II Guerra Mundial quien a sus 104 años cuenta como él y su familia escaparon del Holocausto en Alemania; su decisión de unirse al Ejército Británico para combatir en la Segunda Guerra Mundial y cómo logra reencontrarse con sus padres y hermana en Chile tras diez años de una dura separación.
HISTORY2 presenta el martes 27 de enero en exclusiva para América Latina documental “RUDI HAYMANN: TESTIGO Y PROTAGONISTA”, un relato en profundidad que recorre la vida de un veterano de la II Guerra Mundial quien, a sus 104 años, cuenta su historia personal como un testimonio directo de algunos de los episodios más importantes y dramáticos del mundo contemporáneo. El estreno coincide con el Día Internacional de Conmemoración en Memoria de las Víctimas del Holocausto, una fecha establecida por la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas en 2005 para honrar a quienes sufrieron y perdieron la vida durante el Holocausto y para reflexionar sobre la importancia de preservar la memoria histórica y promover los derechos humanos.
«RUDI HAYMANN: TESTIGO Y PROTAGONISTA” fue realizado por la Escuela de Periodismo y Comunicación de la Universidad Finis Terrae de Chile, donde se involucraron profesores y alumnos en su filmación y edición. A lo largo de 1 hora y 10 minutos, la producción recoge más de seis horas de conversación con Haymann, ofreciendo una mirada profunda y humana sobre su vida, su contexto histórico y su legado.
El protagonista, Rudi Haymann, cuenta de su experiencia con esta producción y cuál es la importancia de que su historia se conozca a través de HISTORY 2: “Nunca surgió en mi mente que me podía dar este grado de difusión. Fue una gran experiencia y fue la primera vez que yo empecé a aparecer más allá de las fronteras de conocidos y de amigos y de aparecer en público. Y estoy sorprendido, gratamente por supuesto, de que esto pueda tener un mayor alcance, no por orgullo personal, sino porque experiencias como estas ojalá que puedan ser contadas y escuchado y entendidos por muchos para evitar la repetición de acontecimientos tan horribles como la guerra”.
Nacido en 1921 en Berlín, en el seno de una familia judío-alemana, Rudi Haymann era un niño de 11 años cuando Hitler llegó al poder. Poco a poco fue viviendo la discriminación y el bullying en el colegio y en las calles hasta que le tocó vivir lo que hoy se conoce como “la noche de los cristales rotos”, momento en el cual su padre logra esconderse y sobrevivir. Con apenas 17 años Rudi huye de Alemania junto a un grupo de jóvenes cruzando a pie Los Alpes rumbo a Italia, dejando así su vida y su familia atrás. Más tarde se asentó en el protectorado británico de Palestina, donde trabajó en un kibutz. En 1942, ante el avance del nazismo durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, decidió alistarse en el Ejército Británico de Bernard Law Montgomery, sirviendo en África e Italia primero como soldado de infantería y después como miembro del Servicio de Inteligencia británico, formando parte de las tropas aliadas que liberaron Roma.
Tres años después del fin de la guerra, en 1948, y gracias a los años de recibir correspondencia esporádica, Rudi Haymann se comunicó con sus padres y hermana quienes habían escapado a Chile. Sin embargo, el resto de su familia, tíos y primos, no lograron sobrevivir al Holocausto. Después de una larga travesía desde Europa hasta América del Sur, Rudi Haymann llega al punto de encuentro con su padre y hermana, sin embargo, los 10 años de separación no habían pasado en vano y tanto padre como hijo no se reconocieron. Fue un silbido propio del progenitor de Rudi lo que logró el reconocimiento de ambos y el tan anhelado abrazo de un padre que vio partir de Alemania a un niño y ahora se encontraba frente a un hombre. En Chile la familia Haymann encontró un hogar, donde Rudi desarrolló una destacada carrera como diseñador de interiores, convirtiéndose en un pionero de esta profesión en el país.
A sus 104 años, con una lucidez admirable y una energía que desafía al tiempo, Rudi continúa activo, dando charlas en escuelas e instituciones culturales para llevar su testimonio a las nuevas generaciones como testigo directo del horror de la guerra, haciendo permanentemente un potente llamado a trabajar por la paz.
“El mensaje, no declarado, pero entendido a través de mis memorias, sirve para saber y a través del saber impedir una repetición de estos horrores, la guerra en cual murieron 50 millones de personas. Ahora, independientemente de esta cifra, cualquier guerra es terrible. No hay cosa peor que eso. Progreso, bienestar y paz son las condiciones que se necesitan para vivir de forma decente. Y la guerra es el antítesis de todo esto”, asevera Haymann, quien constantemente reafirma su compromiso y deseo por “cuidar la paz”. “Yo cambiaría que no haya guerra, es lo peor que puede haber. No hay ningún progreso, no hay ningún bienestar ciudadano o privado cuando hay guerra. Así que cualquier cosa para evitar la guerra es esencial y deseable y hay que ponerse a favor de esto. No hay fase peor de la guerra”, determina.
Por su parte, Alberto Rojas, director del Observatorio de Asuntos Internacionales de la Universidad Finis Terrae de Chile, explica: “Decidimos realizar este documental para dejar registro audiovisual de una persona única: veterano de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, con 104 años de vida activa y un referente en temas de memoria histórica”.
Por otro lado, Alberto López-Hermida, director de la Escuela de Periodismo y Comunicación, destaca que “Esta es una historia con propósito, que no solo relata hechos históricos, sino que toca el alma y nos invita a reflexionar sobre nuestras propias vidas y la convivencia ciudadana”.
Los derechos de “RUDI HAYMANN: TESTIGO Y PROTAGONISTA” fueron entregados como una donación de la Familia Haymann y la Universidad Finis Terrae de Chile a HISTORY con el fin de ampliar la difusión su mensaje al mundo. “Todo esto es para fomentar la paz y la buena convivencia. Espero haber podido aportar algo con mi historia”, aclara Rudi Hayman, quien asegura además que espera “hacerles llegar mi experiencia y a través de la experiencia un mensaje de que la guerra es horrible y la paz hay que cultivarla”.
Con este estreno, HISTORY 2 reafirma su compromiso con contenidos que rescatan testimonios reales, preservan la memoria histórica y conectan el pasado con los desafíos del presente.
