47 estudiantes de dos instituciones educativas participaron en Science Camp – CSIELO, una experiencia de investigación científica que los llevó a analizar la crisis hídrica de la ciudad y a diseñar propuestas para un uso más sostenible del agua.
¿Cómo puede Bogotá prepararse mejor para enfrentar futuras sequías e inundaciones? Esa fue la pregunta que motivó a 47 estudiantes de los colegios Jorge Eliécer Gaitán IED y Heladia Mejía IED a convertirse en investigadores durante los campamentos científicos Science Camp – CSIELO, una iniciativa del Instituto Francés de Investigación para el Desarrollo (IRD), Maloka y la Universidad del Rosario.
Durante dos campamentos, que sumaron más de 35 horas de trabajo entre junio y julio de 2026, los participantes exploraron las causas y consecuencias del cambio climático en Bogotá, tomando como punto de partida la crisis hídrica que vivió la ciudad entre 2024 y 2025. A través de metodologías basadas en la investigación, la experimentación y el trabajo colaborativo, analizaron un desafío real de ciudad y construyeron propuestas para afrontarlo.
Uno de los principales logros del proceso fue acercar a los jóvenes a la ciencia como una herramienta para comprender y actuar frente a los retos ambientales. Durante los campamentos fortalecieron sus conocimientos sobre el cambio climático y los eventos climáticos extremos, aprendieron a interpretar información meteorológica —como los climogramas, que permiten analizar variables como la temperatura y la precipitación— y desarrollaron una mirada más crítica sobre los desafíos que enfrenta Bogotá para garantizar el acceso y el cuidado del agua. Al mismo tiempo, fortalecieron habilidades de pensamiento crítico, comunicación y argumentación para presentar y defender sus ideas.
Como resultado de este proceso surgieron diversas propuestas para promover un uso más sostenible del recurso hídrico. Una de las más destacadas fue «Segunda vida al Agua», desarrollada por el equipo Lluvia de Vida, conformado por estudiantes del Colegio Heladia Mejía IED. La iniciativa plantea que, hacia 2030, las viviendas en Bogotá incorporen sistemas para aprovechar el agua lluvia y las aguas grises en los sanitarios, reduciendo el uso de agua potable únicamente a los casos en que sea indispensable. La propuesta nació del cuestionamiento de los propios estudiantes sobre el uso de agua potable para actividades que podrían realizarse con fuentes alternativas.
La experiencia también dejó huella en los participantes, quienes asumieron el cuidado del agua y del medio ambiente como un compromiso con el futuro. “Nosotros los jóvenes somos los que vamos a salvar la Tierra y, si sabemos qué hacer, la Tierra está más segura que nunca”, expresó Laura Vargas. Para Fernanda Restrepo, el aprendizaje va más allá del campamento: “Me gustaría, cuando vuelva a mi colegio, poder hablarlo con todos y que tomen conciencia, como yo lo estoy haciendo, sobre el medio ambiente y cómo cuidarlo”. En la misma línea, Antonio Barragán destacó la importancia de seguir aprendiendo sobre este tema: “Lo mejor es informarse, asistir a charlas sobre el agua para que ayuden a generar conciencia”.
Para William Molina Ramos, coordinador pedagógico para Colombia de los Campamentos Científicos, involucrar a los jóvenes en este tipo de desafíos les permite comprender cómo el cambio climático afecta su vida cotidiana y fortalecer una postura crítica frente al manejo del agua en la ciudad. “Estos espacios les ayudan a entender que, en el futuro, pueden ser ellos quienes desarrollen soluciones viables para afrontar los efectos del cambio climático desde diferentes roles”, afirmó.
Science Camp – CSIELO hace parte de una iniciativa liderada por el Instituto Francés de Investigación para el Desarrollo (IRD), en articulación con Maloka y la Universidad del Rosario, que busca acercar a las nuevas generaciones al mundo de la investigación científica y fortalecer la apropiación social del conocimiento mediante experiencias educativas conectadas con los desafíos ambientales y sociales del presente.
